Summer at Priory

Summer is a glorious time to visit the Lizard Peninsula!

June: The hedges burst into bloom with wild parsley, foxgloves, and purple-spotted orchids, while the wooded valleys are dappled with sunlight as new leaves grow. Mid-summer brings bonfires and pasties, with Porthallow hosting a Fishing Festival and Pig Roast. Coverack opens its craft exhibition, and Mawgan and Lizard Town celebrate with Feast Weeks.

July: The lobster season is in full swing, perfect for fishing trips for mackerel and pollock, or line fishing from the rocks. The lanes come alive with buttercups and poppies. It’s also time for skiff racing at Porthallow, regattas at Cadgwith and Coverack, band concerts at Mullion, Porthoustock Gala, and St. Keverne Carnival. The RNLI celebrates Lifeboat Day at Coverack.

August: The hedges are creamy with meadowsweet, the heather is in bloom, and local honey shifts from soft golden to rich brown. This lively month features the Mullion Carnival and Regatta, an Ox Roast at St. Keverne, gig racing at Cadgwith against teams from France and the Scillies, and a Teddy Bears Picnic at Ruan Minor. Enjoy Gweek Silver Band Week, concerts at Trelowarren, and performances by the St. Keverne Male Voice Choir around the Peninsula.

Come and experience the vibrant summer festivities and natural beauty of the Lizard Peninsula!
